Students warmed up with rolls and break falls then transitioned to elbow knee escapes to condition the body for BJJ training in Dayton. Next they did a drill where they rolled over their partner who was on their hands and knees and practiced landing on the mat properly, then transitioned to the elbow knee escape again through their partner’s hands and knees. This type of drill allows for training in multiple BJJ aspects in Dayton, Ohio. From there, students then did a basic wrestling drill where one partner stayed in the hands and knees position while the other partner placed their chest on the downed partner’s back and practiced spinning in either direction while pinning their opponent down with their body weight. A drill like this helps to keep the opponent pinned to the ground while the student on top moves to different positions in Dayton, Ohio. Students then moved on to practice the "Wilson Guard Pass" which helps students get out of their opponent’s guard while doing BJJ in Dayton, Ohio. It involves the student in guard to put their weight forward onto their downed opponent and under-hooking one of the arms. Then students put their weight on the opposite site of their opponent and pin one leg down, switching their hips to that side and using their free hand to break their opponent’s guard. After that, the student brings their legs over the opponent’s pinned leg to pass the guard and end up in a superior BJJ position in Dayton, Ohio. Another variation of the sweep involves pinning one of the opponents arms behind their back instead of under-hooking it in the beginning of the "Wilson Guard Pass" then performing the rest of the technique ending with a full mount. The student can then bait the opponent into reversing the full mount by putting their weight to one side, ending up with the opponent in their guard with the arm still pinned behind the opponent’s back. The student can then pull the arm upward to create leverage against the opponent’s shoulder, making them "tap out" in Dayton, Ohio. After training in the "Wilson Guard Pass" students then did our "wiping the mat" session where they are able to do live BJJ sparring against resisting opponents to perfect their technique in Dayton, Ohio. Students then finished up class with an abdominal workout followed by some yoga for fighters to help them cool down from BJJ training in Dayton, Ohio.

In Sunday’s BJJ technical class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio we worked on a basic BJJ control technique called the "De La Hiva Hook" In dayton ohio. This BJJ technique involves hooking your foot inside the opponents leg on the inside of their hamstring, then keeping control of their opposite arm while your other foot is placed on the opposite hip of the leg being hooked. A BJJ sweep in dayton ohio can be applied from this control position by sliding your hooked foot up past the opponent’s groin to their opposite hip, then controlling the ankle of the opponent’s hooked leg and their arm on that side as well. From there, you pull on that arm to get the opponent off-balance and push with your hooked foot, driving them to the ground and following them into a side-control position in Dayton, Ohio. Lastly in class we had our live BJJ sparring session in Dayton, Ohio where students practiced applying the "De La Hiva Hook" control position and sweep against a resisting opponent in order to help perfect the technique in dayton ohio.

At Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio it’s important to drill the proper BJJ techniques in order for them to be effective when they really count. In Saturday’s BJJ class in Dayton, Ohio our students drilled the different positions they would encounter in a BJJ match: the mount, side mount, back mount, and the guard. Working with these positions, our students are able to become comfortable when placed in BJJ situations like these in Dayton, Ohio and therefore able to perform submissions and counters more effectively. That way our students will always know what proper BJJ technique to perform in any situation in Dayton, Ohio. After drilling the positions, it was time for our live sparring session called "wiping the mat." Here we put our BJJ techniques to the test against resisting opponents and get a great workout in Dayton, Ohio.

The Introduction to Jiu Jitsu classes at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio are where every new fighter takes the first steps in learning proper Jiu Jitsu techniques in ohio. In Monday’s Introduction to Jiu Jitsu class, students warmed up by doing front and side rolls, followed by break falls in order to toughen the body up for Jiu Jitsu training in Dayton, Ohio. We then learned a basic Jiu Jitsu submission: the arm bar. When applying the arm bar from a standing position, it’s important to pull the opponent’s arm up to create space under their back and stick your foot underneath to keep the opponent on their side to create additional leverage against their arm. Then the other leg steps over the opponent’s head and you sit down against the opponents shoulder, hugging their arm in tight and creating leverage against their elbow until they "tap out". Our next Jiu Jitsu submission we learned was a basic side-control shoulder lock that can then be transitioned to another variation of the arm bar. The Introduction to Jiu Jitsu class was then finished up with the best abdominal workout in Dayton, Ohio then followed by yoga for fighters to help increase flexibility and prevent any future injuries.

Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio provides the best BJJ training in both stand-up fighting and ground fighting in Dayton, Ohio. In Saturday’s class, our students learned the importance of properly "shooting in" when applying a single-leg or a double-leg takedown on their opponent. It is important when performing the takedown that the hands are properly grabbing the opponent behind the knees where the legs bend and getting your weight underneath the opponent in order to have the proper leverage. The body must also be as close to the opponent’s body to prevent the opponent from "sprawling" in order to defend against the takedown. Without being able to properly apply a correct takedown, our students would not be able to apply the Jiu Jitsu ground techniques we learn in Dayton, Ohio. Class was then finished up with our "wiping the mat" session, where we apply our Jiu Jitsu techniques against a resisting opponent in order to make sure we understand how to perform the techniques correctly in a live situation. Without this kind of training in Dayton, ohio we wouldn’t be prepared for when it really counts in a competition or a self-defense incident.

In Monday’s introduction to Jiu Jitsu class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio, we began with showing how to properly execute ground rolling in order to warm the body up for training in Dayton, Ohio. Next, we worked on our "break falls" in order to prevent injury when receiving Judo throws in Dayton, Ohio, making sure to slap the mat with our hand to absorb most of the shock from being thrown in Dayton, Ohio. After the "break falls" the students learned a basic Judo throw, where the arms and shoulder are used to off-balance the opponent onto one leg, then sweeping the opponents leg with yours and throwing them onto the mat, placing you on top of them in a superior Jiu Jitsu position in Dayton, Ohio. Once done with practicing the Judo throw in Dayton, Ohio, we then worked on some basic Muay Thai pad work in Dayton, Ohio, showing how to properly strike a target with speed and accuracy, as well as provide a killer workout. In Tuesday’s BJJ class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio, we warmed up with break falls in order to prepare our bodies for being thrown. Next, we reviewed on our shoulder and hip throws, making sure our feet are properly place and our hips squared with our opponent’s hips. Then we lift with our legs in order to get our opponent off their feet in a process called "shelving" your opponent, which is then followed by rolling your opponent off your hips and onto the ground. After working the throws, we worked on our standing submissions; one such example is the "gooseneck" wrist submission in Dayton, Ohio. In order to do this, pressure must be properly placed against your opponents wrist in order to make them "tap out". Lastly, we finished up the BJJ class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio with our "wiping the mat" session, which allowed us to apply the different Jiu Jitsu techniques in Dayton, Ohio we have learned against resisting opponents, as well as conditioning the body in order to receive the punishment it endures. After that we transitioned to our version of yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio. Don’t forget to take full advantage of our 30 day free training today! Call NOW (937) 361-0200

Southwest Ohio may no longer be a destination for big-show MMA. WOW

Posted by josh in UFC Fight Nite , ufc , ufc , strikeforce , southwest ohio , Rich Franklin , Ohio Athletic Commission , NAAFS , mma in dayton , mma , josh , classes in dayton , Bellator

Dann Stupp

Southwest Ohio may no longer be a destination for big-show MMA.
On Saturday, Bellator Fighting Championships — arguably the sport’s No. 2 MMA promotion — heads to Canton for an MTV2-televised event at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. It’s the organization’s first event in Ohio since a lowly attended show in Dayton in 2009.
Earlier this month, Strikeforce — which is now under the UFC umbrella — held an event at Cincinnati’s U.S. Bank Arena that drew fewer than 2,000 fans (and many of them got free tickets). For an organization that consistently draws close to 10,000 fans, it was simply a disaster.
While Strikeforce’s days may be numbered, even the UFC is likely to skip the Dayton or Cincinnati areas if it makes a return to Ohio. The world’s top MMA promotion has hosted four shows in Ohio — three in Columbus and one in Cincinnati — but officials say their sights  now are on Northeast Ohio, including the Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown areas. In addition to producing some of the best TV ratings for UFC broadcasts, the area also produces actual ticket-buyers.
The Ohio Athletic Commission regulates more MMA shows per year than any other regulatory body. But more and more promoters are setting up shop in the northeast part of the state. In fact, the NAAFS — Ohio’s largest regional promotion (and one that is co-promoting Saturday’s Bellator 51 card) — holds its shows almost exclusively in the Cleveland area because of the established MMA fan base.
Of course, Dayton and Cincinnati have produced some big-name talent, including Rich Franklin, Jorge Gurgel, Roger Bowling and Matt Brown. Additionally, gyms such as the JG MMA Academy in West Chester Twp. and Cincinnati’s Vision MMA are some of the state’s top facilities.
However, the northeast region recently has provided a steady stream of big-show prospects, including Kent’s Brian Rogers (who picked up a victory over Cincinnati’s Victor O’Donnelll this past weekend at Bellator 50), Cleveland’s Donny Walker (who suffered a loss this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 25), and Justin Edwards, a Mansfield native who picked up his first UFC win at the show.
“The area is just pumping out top-level prospects, and they have built-in fan bases,” said Bellator chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney, who’s filled 11 of 12 spots on Bellator 51’s preliminary card with northeast-Ohio-based fighters. “It’s a very hot area for the sport right now.”
Unlike most team sports, MMA can be supported from afar. Most fans follow the sport exclusively from television sets. But if the trend continues, those who do enjoy watching major events live can expect a drive north to find them.

We train in all aspects of fighting here at Tenbears mma in Dayton, ohio including stand up and ground fighting. Last night in class, we warmed our bodies up with some break falls and rolls as well as elbow knee escapes in or to prepare our bodies for our BJJ training in Dayton, Ohio and prevent injury. Next we worked on our single leg sweeps in Dayton, Ohio. It’s important to train how to properly get your opponent off balance and sweep the leg they have their balance on in order to take them to the ground so that we can apply our BJJ techniques in Dayton, Ohio. Our next technique was your basic shoulder throw, which can be a devastating throw when done correctly. Lastly, we did some standing wrist locks, which are perfect for self-defense in Dayton, Ohio. Situations in which you are facing a larger opponent. It’s amazing how you can control your opponent’s body by just twisting their wrist and keeping their arm extended as far as possible and pulling their body to keep them of balance. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Jiu Jitsu class in Dayton, Ohio without "wiping the mat." That is what we call our live training aspect of our BJJ class in Dayton, Ohio where we go round after round against different opponents of different sizes and skill levels in order to properly apply the techniques we’ve learned at Tenbears mma . After we’re done with "wiping the mat," we finished up with a killer ab workout in Dayton, Ohio. Your core is the most important muscle group in your body, especially when doing BJJ in Dayton, ohio, as most of your movement involves using your core muscles.

I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day when I started training.  I started training mainly cause I have always been interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I felt that the self discipline and fitness oriented training would be the positive influence I needed in my life. I have cut down 15lbs since I started training and quit smoking after the first class. The self confidence I got from the training is something that is unreal. The Sensei is awesome and the way he teaches the classes is informative, fun, and the techniques are extremely useful in competitions. The feeling I get from the school is that we are a big family we watch the fights together train and compete together. I recommend this school and program to anyone that needs a positive direction or fitness training in there life.

~JOSH PETERS

Tenbears has great martial arts classes.  I am a huge fan of jiujitsu and would recommend it to anyone.  It's a great family environment and Sinsei Jim is very patient and ensures that everyone practices key moves correctly.  I know I live a healthier lifestyle now and have more confidence and overall fitness.  I'm learning self defense and gaining more appreciation for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

 ~Colin S.

The number one reason I signed up at Tenbears MMA was because I had a background of boxing and wanted to become more of a well rounded fighter. I wanted to improve my cardio and become more confident that if I end up on the ground in a fight that I will be able to handle the situation. The 3 most important benefits that I have received since I have started training here ; my self confidence has gone up by leaps and bounds, I have became a very well rounded fighter, and I have gained some lifelong friends. I am very happy with the instructors here. Their patience and knowledge of the arts of jiu jitsu, kickboxing, and judo are one of the main reasons that I committed to the school. My overall feeling is that it has become an extension of my family. The respect we give each other here is something you don’t find at every school. I don’t feel like just another statistic here. I would recommend this martial arts school in Dayton to anyone that wants to learn self defense, lose weight, and or compete in jiujitsu. You won’t find a more well rounded school in the area.

~Matt M

The number one reason I wanted to join a martial arts school is to get fit.  I also want to gain more self discipline because I want to become a professional MMA fighter.  So far I have lost 20 pounds, I am much more flexible and I have tons of energy.  Tenbears is the greatest martial arts class in Dayton and it feels like part of my family here. I would definitely recommend this especially as an alternative to karate classes or taekwondo.

~ Angel Burke

Martial Arts DaytonI joined Tenbears MMA mainly to improve on my self defense. The benefits that I have received from this school are endless. Some of the main ones are physical fitness, overall martial arts training and knowledge, and meeting and getting to know others that train many different Martial Arts styles. I have gotten a lot of experience doing ground work (jiu jitsu), also my striking and fitness level have improved by leaps and bounds. I feel the instructor is as much a part of the class as the students. That is something that I don’t see in other school and I think it helps with the overall comradery in the school. My feelings about the school as a whole are it’s a very friendly school and not competitive at all, even though some of the students do compete. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into better shape and or learn some real life self defense and/ or MMA.

~Torrey

I love to compete and have always been a big fan of full contact competition. I had wrestled for many years and decided that this would be a more advanced and technique style of competition. Two of the biggest benefits I got from this school and style of training are honor and respect. I learned that honoring and respecting the school, the sensei, and most importantly myself I was able to advance in the sport.  The leadership skills and humility I learned from this school are something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The feeling I get when I hit the mats and start training is indescribable. The way the classes are taught to the people that train in the school it’s like no other school I have ever been to.  I recommend this school to anyone that is at all interested in training or trying any style of Martial Arts.

~ Brandon

At the age of 32, I have spent 14 years of my life as a martial arts enthusiast. My disciplines include: Karate, Tae Kwando, Jiu-Jitsu, Arnis (stick and knife fighting) and Judo. I also have 3 years experience in high school wrestling. During this time period, I have won 5 sport jiu-jitsu tournaments and took 2nd place in a tae Kwando tournament along being selected four years in a row as a member of a martial arts demonstration team. I participated on the Marine fitness team and have received two presidential sports awards. My employment history includes 13 years in security and law enforcement and 4 years as a personal trainer. I also have worked as an instructor an assistant instructor for several local martial arts schools teaching adult and kid’s martial arts, women’s self defense and weapons retention. Martial arts have helped me in every aspect of my life from stress relief to keeping mentally and physically ready for the high demands of my career. I highly encourage people of all ages and body types to at least try martial arts and see what it can do to improve your quality of life.

 ~JP.

I was at a place where I needed something to help point my life in a positive direction.  I have always wanted to take a martial arts program just never applied myself to it. The humility I have learned from this program is something I will carry with me the rest of my life. The discipline and brotherhood I have gotten from training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy. I am honored to be able to train under sensei Jim the unity in the school is something I have not seen anywhere else. I would recommend this program to everyone that has the slightest desire to try this kind of training. You can’t go wrong with the free 30 days.

~DANNY HOWARD

I started training at 240 lbs.  Now thanks to Tenbears Martial Arts Academy I am down to 190 lbs. I joined mainly because I wanted to get back in shape. A big benefit to joining Tenbears was that I became part of a family. The love and respect we have for each other is amazing. I have learned discipline, respect and honor from training under Sensei Jim. I would recommend this program to everyone that's interested in hands on reality combat sports  or fitness training.

~BRYAN KNAFF

I joined Tenbears Martial Arts Academy mainly to get back into shape. As a result my self confidence went way up and my stress level has gone done by leaps and bounds. In the 6 months I have been training here at Tenbears MMA I have lost 30 POUNDS. I have met a great group of guys that I train with, and have also learned a very practical art. The Sensie’s instructions are simple and he really takes the time to make sure that you understand the techniques. The feeling I get at this school isn’t that of a school at all. It reminds me of a family. I would recommend this school to everyone. I have tried so many other schools in the area and none of them compare to the training I get here at Tenbears MMA. Plus with the 30 DAYS FREE you can’t go wrong.

 ~Mike f

I joined the Tenbears Academy in Dayton mainly to lose weight and improve my over all health. Self defense is also important to me and my family. In one month of class (two days a week) I have lost 6 lbs and one pant size. I feel a drastic difference in my stress level too! Sensei Jim is great and there is a real sense of camaraderie in the class. I’m so glad I'm here and would recommend this martial arts school to anyone.

~JASON ROGERS

The main reason I wanted to train is because I love watching MMA fights on TV. I really just wondered if I could do that type of competition also. I joined Tenbears MMA to try and improve my fighting skills. To say the least I am getting in better shape then I thought I would, I am getting stronger, and my fighting skills have improved drastically. The way the instructor teaches the class is unlike I thought it would be. He really gets in the class just like the students and trains with us. My overall impression of the school is friendly. The way the other student's seem to wanna get to know you kinda caught me off guard, its like a big family. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to improve their self defense skills and or compete.
