EFFECTIVE BJJ AT TENBEARSMMA IN DAYTON OHIO

We always get a great work out here at TENBEARSMMA in Dayton Ohio! I am going to talk a little about UFC 144 and how students at TENBEARSMMA where drilling the same technique Vaughan Lee tapped ‘kid’ Yamamoto with sat, Yamamoto had never been tapped out until sat.  night! Vaughan Lee got him with a armbar that he transitioned to from a triangle attempt. Sat. at TENBEARSMMA in Dayton Ohio we where training hard before UFC 144 came on that night and just happened to be drilling the Technique that Vaughn Lee tapped ‘Kid’ Yamamoto with!

This is how we started our training at TENBEARS in Dayton Ohio First we warmed up to get our synovial fluid moving between our joints so we avoid unnecessary injuries, we did lots of good stretches, we also did jumping jacks, pushups, sit ups etc. once we where good and warm we started drilling guard passes with our training partner resisting about 50% this is great for warming up the rest of the way plus you can’t train guard passing enough! After we drilled some guard passes in Dayton Ohio we moved on to some techniques, sensei showed us different ways to enter the technique and key details that might make the difference between someone escaping and someone tapping! I will go over a couple but you really need to come to TENBEARS and experience this for yourself, from the triangle just like you saw in UFC 144 Vaughn Lee pushed the wrist down and entered the triangle instead of wasting energy he transitioned to the armbar, a key detail you saw was how Lee under hooked the leg to turn his body to get a great angle as he transitioned to the armbar he knew he had the shoulder trapped good.  you can get the tap still holding the leg raising your hips up and pulling the arm back, Lee went ahead and used the other arm to really put a lot of pressure on ‘Kids’ arm, he knew he had it at this point! After drilling some great techniques here at TENBEARSMMA in Dayton Ohio we did a 4 point drill! Great BJJ drill we got students that compete so this great for that and great for staying in shape and your BJJ in general! We start with one student  on their back, and the other one in that Persons guard, first one to 4 points stays on the mat. This is a great workout and very good for getting used to the points system in BJJ matches! Come check us out at TENBEARSMMA in Dayton Ohio!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio Submissions from the BJJ Guard

Posted by torrey in triangles , sweeps , omoplata , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , jiu jitsu , free training , chokes , Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , bjj in dayton , bjj full mount , bjj , arm bars , 30 days free

This session of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy focused a basic setup from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position. From this BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position it is possible to do BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sweeps as well as BJJ in Dayton, Ohio submissions such as arm bars, triangle chokes, and the omoplata.

The BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position setup begins with trapping the opponent’s arm while they are in your BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard. From there, you bring your legs up to wrap around the opponent’s upper torso, with your leg slightly on top of the opponent’s shoulder on the side of the trapped arm.

To perform the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sweep from this position, your other hand grabs at the opponent’s pant leg on the opposite side of the trapped arm and the leg on their shoulder swings to that side while lifting up on the opponent’s pant leg with your other hand, creating momentum that should roll the opponent onto their back, putting you in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio full mount position. This is the best BJJ in Dayton, Ohio position to be in as it presents a lot of opportunities for BJJ in Dayton, Ohio submissions as well as earning the most points in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition.

A basic BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm bar submission can be done by bringing the leg on the opponent’s shoulder of the trapped arm over their head and arching the hips up to create leverage against the opponent’s elbow.

To perform the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard setup position you push the opponent’s free arm through your legs and wrap your legs around their head and arm in a figure four variation, applying pressure against their neck by squeezing the legs together and pushing down on their head.

Lastly, if the opponent defends the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm bar by pulling their arm out from between their legs, you can then use their other arm by trapping it against your hip then rolling to the opposite side and sitting up. This will put you in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio omoplata submission position where you can lean forward against their arm creating leverage against their shoulder.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio the Arm Drag takedown

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy focused on some variations of the arm drag takedown.  After our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio warm up session was done, we began with drilling the basic BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm drag with our partners.
The first BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm drag takedown we practiced was a variation that involved grabbing the opponent’s arm behind the tricep and then reaching around their back with our other hand and grabbing their belt or their torso if they are not wearing a gi.  From there we simply sit down and pull the opponent into us, ending up in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio back mount position.
The BJJ in Dayton, Ohio back mount position is one of the best BJJ in Dayton, Ohio positions because it allows us to perform a number of BJJ in Dayton, Ohio submissions such as rear naked chokes, which are commonly seen in MMA in Dayton, Ohio fights, and arm bars from the back mount.  It is also one of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio positions that will earn you the most points in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition if you plan to compete in Dayton, Ohio.

Another variation of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm drag we practiced was from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio half guard position. If the opponent tries to reach for our head with their arm, we simply perform the same BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm drag we practiced before by pulling their arm across their body and moving to their back, putting us back in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio back mount position.
Once we were done drilling the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio arm drag variations, we then moved on to our application part of our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio class where we grappled with resisting opponents round after round in order to better our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques.
We then finished up our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy with our yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio session to help stretch out the body and relax the mind so we are able to recover easier from our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio training.

Tenbears Martial Arts academy in Dayton Ohio is the only Southern Ohio Affiliate School of Marcello C.  Monteiro.  We are privileged to learn some great Techniques that come straight from the professor himself! We are going to start from half guard on this technique in Dayton Ohio, We are going to switch our base, so that my right arm is over hooking my opponents right arm I am going to be on my right hip, close to my opponent and scissoring my legs with my right knee up against my opponents hip. I am going to bait my opponent into thinking that I am going for the mount. To make my opponent think that I am stepping over for the mount I am going to grab his pants just above his knee. My opponent will try to push my hand off his knee when he does He just fell for the trap! When he goes to push my hand off I let go of his gi pants and grab his wrist, Next I pin his arm to the mat, I have two arms attacking his one, I already have the arm over hooked with my right arm and control of his wrist with my left so I am going to go for a straight armlock but my opponent defends well and bends his arm and grabs his own belt. That’s ok I am going to transition to the kimura by grabbing my own wrist. I am going to pull my opponent up on his side and step over his head to break the grip of my opponent grabbing his belt, but my opponent has a very good grip, instead of playing muscle jitsu I am going to transition to something else to conserve energy I am going to keep a hold of his arm and transition to the other side of my opponent. I am going to put my chest against his elbow and stay on my toes for leverage. Next I am going to let go of his wrist and hug his head with a over under going to palm to palm or a gable grip. Next I am going to switch my base again scissoring my legs this time my left knee against my opponents back making it very easy to transition to the mount. I hold on to the over under as I go to mount, now that I am in the mount I am going to attack again. This time I am going for a gi choke that is very easy from the grip I have, I am going to let go of the palm to palm and grab my opponents collar feeding it to my left hand as deep as I can get it! To finish I am going to just take my right arm and feed it behind the head cutting both carotid artery for the tap! If I do not have the choke, I go to another attack that is ripe for the taking. grab my own collar trapping the arm taking my left hand and pushing my opponents face the other way stepping over for the armbar always pinching knees together and opponents thumb up, raising the hips for the tap!

Saturday’s Jiu Jitsu class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio

Saturday’s Jiu Jitsu class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio was a very technical class, focusing on standing submissions as well as ground submissions. To begin with, we warmed up the bodies with our front rolls and side rolls, then transitioned into front break falls and side break falls, finishing up with good old fashioned elbow knee escapes in Dayton, Ohio. Our first set of techniques we practiced were standing wrist locks, also known as "Yawara" in the Yudansha Jiu Jitsu system in Dayton, Ohio. These involve keeping control of the opponent’s wrist, especially gripping at the thumb, and twisting the wrist and applying pressure in various ways in order to control their body and to submit them, making them "tap out" when the pain is overwhelming. Techniques such as these are perfect for self-defense situations as they start with the opponent grabbing our gi top or shirt. After the Yawara techniques, we then worked on performing a triangle choke from a different angle by starting in a BJJ side control position in Dayton, Ohio. From there we take control of the opponent’s arm and transition to where we are over our opponent with our legs up by their head. Then we take our foot on the opposite side of the arm we have controlled and put it between the opponents other free arm and their torso, sitting back and baiting them to bring up their head from between our legs. Once they do that, we take the foot we just put down and bring it across the opponents chest and hook our foot underneath our other leg behind the knee, locking the triangle in place while maintaining control of the other arm we grabbed earlier. If the triangle choke does not cause them to "tap out" then we can take the arm we have controlled and apply an arm bar against it, causing them to "tap out" as well as maintaining control of the opponent and exposing their head, perfect for applying ground and pound techniques perfect for MMA and street fighting situations. After the technical part of class, we then did our "wiping the mat" session, sparring against opponents of various size and skill level to help practice our application of the Jiu Jitsu techniques we’ve learned in Dayton, Ohio. Once we’re good and tired from "wiping the mat" we did our abdominal workout session to strengthen our core and them cooled down our bodies with some Yoga For Fighters in Dayton, Ohio.

The Introduction to Jiu Jitsu classes at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio are where every new fighter takes the first steps in learning proper Jiu Jitsu techniques in ohio. In Monday’s Introduction to Jiu Jitsu class, students warmed up by doing front and side rolls, followed by break falls in order to toughen the body up for Jiu Jitsu training in Dayton, Ohio. We then learned a basic Jiu Jitsu submission: the arm bar. When applying the arm bar from a standing position, it’s important to pull the opponent’s arm up to create space under their back and stick your foot underneath to keep the opponent on their side to create additional leverage against their arm. Then the other leg steps over the opponent’s head and you sit down against the opponents shoulder, hugging their arm in tight and creating leverage against their elbow until they "tap out". Our next Jiu Jitsu submission we learned was a basic side-control shoulder lock that can then be transitioned to another variation of the arm bar. The Introduction to Jiu Jitsu class was then finished up with the best abdominal workout in Dayton, Ohio then followed by yoga for fighters to help increase flexibility and prevent any future injuries.

I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day when I started training.  I started training mainly cause I have always been interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I felt that the self discipline and fitness oriented training would be the positive influence I needed in my life. I have cut down 15lbs since I started training and quit smoking after the first class. The self confidence I got from the training is something that is unreal. The Sensei is awesome and the way he teaches the classes is informative, fun, and the techniques are extremely useful in competitions. The feeling I get from the school is that we are a big family we watch the fights together train and compete together. I recommend this school and program to anyone that needs a positive direction or fitness training in there life.

~JOSH PETERS

Tenbears has great martial arts classes.  I am a huge fan of jiujitsu and would recommend it to anyone.  It's a great family environment and Sinsei Jim is very patient and ensures that everyone practices key moves correctly.  I know I live a healthier lifestyle now and have more confidence and overall fitness.  I'm learning self defense and gaining more appreciation for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

 ~Colin S.

The number one reason I signed up at Tenbears MMA was because I had a background of boxing and wanted to become more of a well rounded fighter. I wanted to improve my cardio and become more confident that if I end up on the ground in a fight that I will be able to handle the situation. The 3 most important benefits that I have received since I have started training here ; my self confidence has gone up by leaps and bounds, I have became a very well rounded fighter, and I have gained some lifelong friends. I am very happy with the instructors here. Their patience and knowledge of the arts of jiu jitsu, kickboxing, and judo are one of the main reasons that I committed to the school. My overall feeling is that it has become an extension of my family. The respect we give each other here is something you don’t find at every school. I don’t feel like just another statistic here. I would recommend this martial arts school in Dayton to anyone that wants to learn self defense, lose weight, and or compete in jiujitsu. You won’t find a more well rounded school in the area.

~Matt M

The number one reason I wanted to join a martial arts school is to get fit.  I also want to gain more self discipline because I want to become a professional MMA fighter.  So far I have lost 20 pounds, I am much more flexible and I have tons of energy.  Tenbears is the greatest martial arts class in Dayton and it feels like part of my family here. I would definitely recommend this especially as an alternative to karate classes or taekwondo.

~ Angel Burke

Martial Arts DaytonI joined Tenbears MMA mainly to improve on my self defense. The benefits that I have received from this school are endless. Some of the main ones are physical fitness, overall martial arts training and knowledge, and meeting and getting to know others that train many different Martial Arts styles. I have gotten a lot of experience doing ground work (jiu jitsu), also my striking and fitness level have improved by leaps and bounds. I feel the instructor is as much a part of the class as the students. That is something that I don’t see in other school and I think it helps with the overall comradery in the school. My feelings about the school as a whole are it’s a very friendly school and not competitive at all, even though some of the students do compete. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into better shape and or learn some real life self defense and/ or MMA.

~Torrey

I love to compete and have always been a big fan of full contact competition. I had wrestled for many years and decided that this would be a more advanced and technique style of competition. Two of the biggest benefits I got from this school and style of training are honor and respect. I learned that honoring and respecting the school, the sensei, and most importantly myself I was able to advance in the sport.  The leadership skills and humility I learned from this school are something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The feeling I get when I hit the mats and start training is indescribable. The way the classes are taught to the people that train in the school it’s like no other school I have ever been to.  I recommend this school to anyone that is at all interested in training or trying any style of Martial Arts.

~ Brandon

At the age of 32, I have spent 14 years of my life as a martial arts enthusiast. My disciplines include: Karate, Tae Kwando, Jiu-Jitsu, Arnis (stick and knife fighting) and Judo. I also have 3 years experience in high school wrestling. During this time period, I have won 5 sport jiu-jitsu tournaments and took 2nd place in a tae Kwando tournament along being selected four years in a row as a member of a martial arts demonstration team. I participated on the Marine fitness team and have received two presidential sports awards. My employment history includes 13 years in security and law enforcement and 4 years as a personal trainer. I also have worked as an instructor an assistant instructor for several local martial arts schools teaching adult and kid’s martial arts, women’s self defense and weapons retention. Martial arts have helped me in every aspect of my life from stress relief to keeping mentally and physically ready for the high demands of my career. I highly encourage people of all ages and body types to at least try martial arts and see what it can do to improve your quality of life.

 ~JP.

I was at a place where I needed something to help point my life in a positive direction.  I have always wanted to take a martial arts program just never applied myself to it. The humility I have learned from this program is something I will carry with me the rest of my life. The discipline and brotherhood I have gotten from training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy. I am honored to be able to train under sensei Jim the unity in the school is something I have not seen anywhere else. I would recommend this program to everyone that has the slightest desire to try this kind of training. You can’t go wrong with the free 30 days.

~DANNY HOWARD

I started training at 240 lbs.  Now thanks to Tenbears Martial Arts Academy I am down to 190 lbs. I joined mainly because I wanted to get back in shape. A big benefit to joining Tenbears was that I became part of a family. The love and respect we have for each other is amazing. I have learned discipline, respect and honor from training under Sensei Jim. I would recommend this program to everyone that's interested in hands on reality combat sports  or fitness training.

~BRYAN KNAFF

I joined Tenbears Martial Arts Academy mainly to get back into shape. As a result my self confidence went way up and my stress level has gone done by leaps and bounds. In the 6 months I have been training here at Tenbears MMA I have lost 30 POUNDS. I have met a great group of guys that I train with, and have also learned a very practical art. The Sensie’s instructions are simple and he really takes the time to make sure that you understand the techniques. The feeling I get at this school isn’t that of a school at all. It reminds me of a family. I would recommend this school to everyone. I have tried so many other schools in the area and none of them compare to the training I get here at Tenbears MMA. Plus with the 30 DAYS FREE you can’t go wrong.

 ~Mike f

I joined the Tenbears Academy in Dayton mainly to lose weight and improve my over all health. Self defense is also important to me and my family. In one month of class (two days a week) I have lost 6 lbs and one pant size. I feel a drastic difference in my stress level too! Sensei Jim is great and there is a real sense of camaraderie in the class. I’m so glad I'm here and would recommend this martial arts school to anyone.

~JASON ROGERS

The main reason I wanted to train is because I love watching MMA fights on TV. I really just wondered if I could do that type of competition also. I joined Tenbears MMA to try and improve my fighting skills. To say the least I am getting in better shape then I thought I would, I am getting stronger, and my fighting skills have improved drastically. The way the instructor teaches the class is unlike I thought it would be. He really gets in the class just like the students and trains with us. My overall impression of the school is friendly. The way the other student's seem to wanna get to know you kinda caught me off guard, its like a big family. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to improve their self defense skills and or compete.

~Dale
