BJJ in Dayton, Ohio the Triangle Choke

Posted by torrey in triangles , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , jiu jitsu , free training , drilling , compete in dayton , classes in dayton , class , chokes , Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , bjj ohio , bjj in dayton , bjj dayton , bjj , ab workout in dayton , 4 point drill , 30 days free

This session of our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy focused on the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position.

After warming up and doing rolls and break falls, our first BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke entry was from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio closed guard. From here, we grab one of our opponent’s arms and pull it towards us. The opponent’s natural reaction is to pull their arm in the opposite direction, making it easier for us to push that arm through our legs and wrap them around the opponent’s neck and other trapped arm, putting us in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke position.

Another entry to the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke is from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio open guard position. Once we have established the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio open guard position on our opponent, we put on foot on the opponent’s shoulder and pull their arms toward us. We then slide the foot that was on the shoulder up past the opponent’s shoulder while still pulling them into us, wrapping our legs around their neck and arm putting us in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle position.

Once done with drilling the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke submission we then moved on to a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio drill we call the 4-point drill. This drill helps with being able to score points in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition as it makes students mindful of trying to get the better position or preventing their opponent form getting it because the first person in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio 4-point drill to score 4 points wins the match. When one match is over the winner stays in and faces a new opponent and the loser goes and waits in line to be paired up with another opponent once they become available. It is a very rapid drill and allows you to deal with different opponents a lot quicker than just conventional sparring, but with the same intensity and focus.

At the end of our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we focused on our abdominals by doing some medicine ball exercises and followed it up with our yoga for fighters program to keep the body flexible.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio the Pendulum Sweep

Posted by torrey in triangles , sparring , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , judo , jiu jitsu , free training , fighters in dayton , drilling , class , Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , bjj ohio , bjj in dayton , bjj full mount , bjj dayton , bjj , 30 days free

In today’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we focused on some basic BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sweeps from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position.

We began our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy with some basic front rolls and side rolls, followed by break falls commonly found in Judo in Dayton, Ohio in order to toughen our bodies up for our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio training.

Once done with our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio warm ups we began working on what is known in BJJ in Dayton, Ohio as a "Pendulum sweep" from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position.  This involves putting our opponent in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position with our shin up against our opponent’s armpit while trapping that hand against our hip and then grabbing their pant leg on the opposite side of the trapped arm and then turning our body against that leg to make them off balance.  From there, the opponent will try to post on their free hand in order to regain their balance, which is what we want them to do in our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position. Once they post out with that hand, we then force our hips the opposite way against the opponent’s trapped arm and sweep them onto their back, putting us in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio full mount position, which is one of the best positions to be in when doing BJJ in Dayton, Ohio especially at a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition as it will earn the most points you can get in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition.

Another variation of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio pendulum sweep from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position is from where the opponent posts out with there hand.  From here, we can then feed our leg through the opponent’s arm and put them in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke position, where we can apply pressure to their neck and make them "tap out."

Once we were done with our drilling of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio pendulum sweep from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position we then moved on to our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sparring session of class we call "wiping the mat" which involves live sparring in order to get the maximum benefit from our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio training.

When our bodies were good and tired from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sparring we finished up our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy with our yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio session to help our bodies cool down and stay flexible from our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio training.

MMA conditioning, countering the roundhouse kick

Posted by torrey in technique , sparring , self defense dayton ohio , self defense , roundhouse kick , mma in dayton , mma dayton ohio , mma dayton , mma , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , grappling in dayton , grappling , free training , fighters in dayton , drilling , class , bjj in dayton , bjj dayton , bjj , 30 days free

In today’s MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we worked on dealing with counters to an opponent’s roundhouse kick.

After warming up the body at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy, we worked on a basic counter to the roundhouse kick, which is a kick commonly found in many Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio. To begin, as the opponent performs the roundhouse kick in Dayton, Ohio we move our body into the kick by stepping to the side along the path of the kick so that we don’t let the roundhouse kick hit us. Then we catch their roundhouse kick with our arms and step into the opponent and sweep the leg they are currently standing on. From there we can go to the ground and apply our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques on our opponent. This is also an effective technique in MMA in Dayton, Ohio especially when the opponent has a background in striking Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio and little to no experience in grappling in Dayton, Ohio as it takes away their position for striking and puts them in unfamiliar territory which makes it even easier to perform BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques on them. It is also effective for self-defense in Dayton, Ohio as it puts the opponent on the ground forcefully, while leaving you in a superior standing position if you do not want to go to the ground.

Another variation of the roundhouse kick defense we trained at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy was once you block the opponent’s kick, you shoot in and wrap your leg around the opponent’s leg and force them to the ground where you can apply your BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques to them. This is a risky move as it gives up your standing position and forces you to go to the ground so it may be a situational technique in a self-defense in Dayton, Ohio situation as there may be more than one opponent around.

Once done with the kicking defense techniques at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we then moved on to some station drills that worked on our MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning to help build up our cardio and technique. Once the stations drills at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy were done we then moved on to our sparring in Dayton, Ohio session where we brought all of our MMA in Dayton, Ohio techniques together against resisting opponents to get the maximum benefit from our MMA in Dayton, Ohio training.

We then finished up our MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning class with our yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio program to help stretch our bodies out and prevent any further injuries from occurring.

Marcello C. Monteiro Seminar 12.10.2011

On December 10 some of the members of Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio went to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar held by Marcello C. Monteiro. Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio is the only Marcello C. Monteiro Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial arts school in the southern Ohio area. Marcello C. Monteiro’s style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio is known for it’s BJJ in Dayton, Ohio half guard techniques, so he focused a lot of time demonstrating techniques from this position. The half guard in BJJ is where the opponent has one leg free of your guard, but their other leg is still trapped inside your guard. Most other styles of BJJ in Dayton, Ohio use the half guard as more of a transition point, but Marcello C. Monteiro was able to show us some BJJ sweeps from this position. One involved diving between the opponent’s legs and under-hooking their free leg while bringing their base on top of you. From there, your grab the ankle of their leg that is still trapped, to prevent them from escaping that foot. Afterwards, we escaped our hips out from under the opponent while still trapping their leg and pushed them forward, with us ending up behind them where we then stuck both of our feet behind their knees and straightened our legs while pulling their body into us. This causes them to fall back and puts is in the BJJ position known as the back mount, where BJJ in Dayton, Ohio submissions like the rear naked choke can be applied. Taking an opponent’s back is one of the best BJJ positions to be in whether it be MMA in Dayton, Ohio or competition Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio, as the back mount is worth 4 points which is the most points that can be awarded for obtaining a superior BJJ position in sport Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio. Another technique that Marcello C. Monteiro taught at his BJJ seminar was how to apply a gooseneck wrist-lock against an opponent that is resisting an arm bar, as well as a submission against an opponent resisting a triangle choke which ended up with creating pressure against their bicep with our wrist. The BJJ seminar was then finished up with a ceremony in which Marcello C. Monteiro shared some of his BJJ philosophies and awarded his students with their next rank in BJJ in Dayton, Ohio, be it another stripe on their belt or the next belt rank.

Sunday’s Brazilian jiu jitsu class at Tenbears martial arts academy in Dayton, Ohio. Our "open mat" class where students have the opportunity to train in any aspect they please this Dayton, Ohio MMA school. Once warmed up, the students that were practicing BJJ ground techniques worked on their Mountaineer sweep from an open guard position at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio. This sweep involves pushing your hips up into your opponent when they have straitened their posture while in your guard, causing their weight to be shifted backwards. The opponent may post a hand on the mat in order to brace themselves from being swept, which is what we want them to do because we then pull that hand into our bodies to break their post and continue to drive them with our hips, ending up in a BJJ full mount position on top of the opponent at this MMA school in Dayton, Ohio. After training in the Mountaineer sweep, we did another sweep that involves being in the BJJ open guard position. First we take one of our legs and bring it over the opponents arm on that side and bring the leg across their chest and putting the foot into their opposite armpit, trapping that arm. From there, we pull the other arm across our body to the opposite side while pushing out with our leg that we have across their chest, breaking their balance and sweeping them and gaining 2 points for the sweep. At Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio we train to compete and for a basic exercise that won’t get boring in Dayton, Ohio. We finished up the "open mat" class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio by doing some light BJJ sparring to apply the sweeps we just practiced.STAY TUNED TO GET MORE INFO ABOUT BJJ MOVES! Saturday’s Jiu Jitsu class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio

Saturday’s Jiu Jitsu class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio was a very technical class, focusing on standing submissions as well as ground submissions. To begin with, we warmed up the bodies with our front rolls and side rolls, then transitioned into front break falls and side break falls, finishing up with good old fashioned elbow knee escapes in Dayton, Ohio. Our first set of techniques we practiced were standing wrist locks, also known as "Yawara" in the Yudansha Jiu Jitsu system in Dayton, Ohio. These involve keeping control of the opponent’s wrist, especially gripping at the thumb, and twisting the wrist and applying pressure in various ways in order to control their body and to submit them, making them "tap out" when the pain is overwhelming. Techniques such as these are perfect for self-defense situations as they start with the opponent grabbing our gi top or shirt. After the Yawara techniques, we then worked on performing a triangle choke from a different angle by starting in a BJJ side control position in Dayton, Ohio. From there we take control of the opponent’s arm and transition to where we are over our opponent with our legs up by their head. Then we take our foot on the opposite side of the arm we have controlled and put it between the opponents other free arm and their torso, sitting back and baiting them to bring up their head from between our legs. Once they do that, we take the foot we just put down and bring it across the opponents chest and hook our foot underneath our other leg behind the knee, locking the triangle in place while maintaining control of the other arm we grabbed earlier. If the triangle choke does not cause them to "tap out" then we can take the arm we have controlled and apply an arm bar against it, causing them to "tap out" as well as maintaining control of the opponent and exposing their head, perfect for applying ground and pound techniques perfect for MMA and street fighting situations. After the technical part of class, we then did our "wiping the mat" session, sparring against opponents of various size and skill level to help practice our application of the Jiu Jitsu techniques we’ve learned in Dayton, Ohio. Once we’re good and tired from "wiping the mat" we did our abdominal workout session to strengthen our core and them cooled down our bodies with some Yoga For Fighters in Dayton, Ohio.

Thursday classes at Tenbearss MMA in Dayton, Ohio are all about developing our stand up skills, including punching, kicking, clinch work, and takedowns in dayton ohio. Most if not all fights start standing up, so having excellent stand up skills is just as important as having good BJJ ground skills in dayton. We start out with warming our bodies up by practicing basic Boxing and Muay Thai punching and kicking drills against a partner by blocking and passing their strikes in Dayton, Ohio. These drills also help to develop reaction time to make it easier to tell when our opponent will strike and what strike they may use. After working those basic drills, we worked into "The Grind" where the students go round after round at different training stations practicing different skills such as Muay Thai pad striking, ground and pound strikes on a bag, punching and kicking against the heavy bag, using the speed bag and speed ball to help develop good hand eye coordination, as well as various other training drills in Dayton, Ohio. From there, after our bodies are good and tired from "The Grind" we then did live sparring against each other to practice our application of our Muay Thai skills in Dayton, Ohio. Once the sparring session is over, we worked into the abdominal section by doing leg raises at different levels as well as dropping a medicine ball on our stomachs to help condition them in Dayton, Ohio. As always we finished up by cooling down with our Yoga For Fighters session in order to keep our bodies nice and flexible in Dayton, Ohio.

Students warmed up with rolls and break falls then transitioned to elbow knee escapes to condition the body for BJJ training in Dayton. Next they did a drill where they rolled over their partner who was on their hands and knees and practiced landing on the mat properly, then transitioned to the elbow knee escape again through their partner’s hands and knees. This type of drill allows for training in multiple BJJ aspects in Dayton, Ohio. From there, students then did a basic wrestling drill where one partner stayed in the hands and knees position while the other partner placed their chest on the downed partner’s back and practiced spinning in either direction while pinning their opponent down with their body weight. A drill like this helps to keep the opponent pinned to the ground while the student on top moves to different positions in Dayton, Ohio. Students then moved on to practice the "Wilson Guard Pass" which helps students get out of their opponent’s guard while doing BJJ in Dayton, Ohio. It involves the student in guard to put their weight forward onto their downed opponent and under-hooking one of the arms. Then students put their weight on the opposite site of their opponent and pin one leg down, switching their hips to that side and using their free hand to break their opponent’s guard. After that, the student brings their legs over the opponent’s pinned leg to pass the guard and end up in a superior BJJ position in Dayton, Ohio. Another variation of the sweep involves pinning one of the opponents arms behind their back instead of under-hooking it in the beginning of the "Wilson Guard Pass" then performing the rest of the technique ending with a full mount. The student can then bait the opponent into reversing the full mount by putting their weight to one side, ending up with the opponent in their guard with the arm still pinned behind the opponent’s back. The student can then pull the arm upward to create leverage against the opponent’s shoulder, making them "tap out" in Dayton, Ohio. After training in the "Wilson Guard Pass" students then did our "wiping the mat" session where they are able to do live BJJ sparring against resisting opponents to perfect their technique in Dayton, Ohio. Students then finished up class with an abdominal workout followed by some yoga for fighters to help them cool down from BJJ training in Dayton, Ohio.

I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day when I started training.  I started training mainly cause I have always been interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I felt that the self discipline and fitness oriented training would be the positive influence I needed in my life. I have cut down 15lbs since I started training and quit smoking after the first class. The self confidence I got from the training is something that is unreal. The Sensei is awesome and the way he teaches the classes is informative, fun, and the techniques are extremely useful in competitions. The feeling I get from the school is that we are a big family we watch the fights together train and compete together. I recommend this school and program to anyone that needs a positive direction or fitness training in there life.

~JOSH PETERS

Tenbears has great martial arts classes.  I am a huge fan of jiujitsu and would recommend it to anyone.  It's a great family environment and Sinsei Jim is very patient and ensures that everyone practices key moves correctly.  I know I live a healthier lifestyle now and have more confidence and overall fitness.  I'm learning self defense and gaining more appreciation for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

 ~Colin S.

The number one reason I signed up at Tenbears MMA was because I had a background of boxing and wanted to become more of a well rounded fighter. I wanted to improve my cardio and become more confident that if I end up on the ground in a fight that I will be able to handle the situation. The 3 most important benefits that I have received since I have started training here ; my self confidence has gone up by leaps and bounds, I have became a very well rounded fighter, and I have gained some lifelong friends. I am very happy with the instructors here. Their patience and knowledge of the arts of jiu jitsu, kickboxing, and judo are one of the main reasons that I committed to the school. My overall feeling is that it has become an extension of my family. The respect we give each other here is something you don’t find at every school. I don’t feel like just another statistic here. I would recommend this martial arts school in Dayton to anyone that wants to learn self defense, lose weight, and or compete in jiujitsu. You won’t find a more well rounded school in the area.

~Matt M

The number one reason I wanted to join a martial arts school is to get fit.  I also want to gain more self discipline because I want to become a professional MMA fighter.  So far I have lost 20 pounds, I am much more flexible and I have tons of energy.  Tenbears is the greatest martial arts class in Dayton and it feels like part of my family here. I would definitely recommend this especially as an alternative to karate classes or taekwondo.

~ Angel Burke

Martial Arts DaytonI joined Tenbears MMA mainly to improve on my self defense. The benefits that I have received from this school are endless. Some of the main ones are physical fitness, overall martial arts training and knowledge, and meeting and getting to know others that train many different Martial Arts styles. I have gotten a lot of experience doing ground work (jiu jitsu), also my striking and fitness level have improved by leaps and bounds. I feel the instructor is as much a part of the class as the students. That is something that I don’t see in other school and I think it helps with the overall comradery in the school. My feelings about the school as a whole are it’s a very friendly school and not competitive at all, even though some of the students do compete. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into better shape and or learn some real life self defense and/ or MMA.

~Torrey

I love to compete and have always been a big fan of full contact competition. I had wrestled for many years and decided that this would be a more advanced and technique style of competition. Two of the biggest benefits I got from this school and style of training are honor and respect. I learned that honoring and respecting the school, the sensei, and most importantly myself I was able to advance in the sport.  The leadership skills and humility I learned from this school are something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The feeling I get when I hit the mats and start training is indescribable. The way the classes are taught to the people that train in the school it’s like no other school I have ever been to.  I recommend this school to anyone that is at all interested in training or trying any style of Martial Arts.

~ Brandon

I was at a place where I needed something to help point my life in a positive direction.  I have always wanted to take a martial arts program just never applied myself to it. The humility I have learned from this program is something I will carry with me the rest of my life. The discipline and brotherhood I have gotten from training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy. I am honored to be able to train under sensei Jim the unity in the school is something I have not seen anywhere else. I would recommend this program to everyone that has the slightest desire to try this kind of training. You can’t go wrong with the free 30 days.

I started training at 240 lbs.  Now thanks to Tenbears Martial Arts Academy I am down to 190 lbs. I joined mainly because I wanted to get back in shape. A big benefit to joining Tenbears was that I became part of a family. The love and respect we have for each other is amazing. I have learned discipline, respect and honor from training under Sensei Jim. I would recommend this program to everyone that's interested in hands on reality combat sports  or fitness training.

I joined Tenbears Martial Arts Academy mainly to get back into shape. As a result my self confidence went way up and my stress level has gone done by leaps and bounds. In the 6 months I have been training here at Tenbears MMA I have lost 30 POUNDS. I have met a great group of guys that I train with, and have also learned a very practical art. The Sensie’s instructions are simple and he really takes the time to make sure that you understand the techniques. The feeling I get at this school isn’t that of a school at all. It reminds me of a family. I would recommend this school to everyone. I have tried so many other schools in the area and none of them compare to the training I get here at Tenbears MMA. Plus with the 30 DAYS FREE you can’t go wrong.

I joined the Tenbears Academy in Dayton mainly to lose weight and improve my over all health. Self defense is also important to me and my family. In one month of class (two days a week) I have lost 6 lbs and one pant size. I feel a drastic difference in my stress level too! Sensei Jim is great and there is a real sense of camaraderie in the class. I’m so glad I'm here and would recommend this martial arts school to anyone.

The main reason I wanted to train is because I love watching MMA fights on TV. I really just wondered if I could do that type of competition also. I joined Tenbears MMA to try and improve my fighting skills. To say the least I am getting in better shape then I thought I would, I am getting stronger, and my fighting skills have improved drastically. The way the instructor teaches the class is unlike I thought it would be. He really gets in the class just like the students and trains with us. My overall impression of the school is friendly. The way the other student's seem to wanna get to know you kinda caught me off guard, its like a big family. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to improve their self defense skills and or compete.
