Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio the Pendulum Sweep

Posted by torrey in triangles , sparring , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , judo , jiu jitsu , free training , fighters in dayton , drilling , class , Brazilian Jiu Jitsu , bjj ohio , bjj in dayton , bjj full mount , bjj dayton , bjj , 30 days free

In today’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we focused on some basic BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sweeps from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position.

We began our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy with some basic front rolls and side rolls, followed by break falls commonly found in Judo in Dayton, Ohio in order to toughen our bodies up for our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio training.

Once done with our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio warm ups we began working on what is known in BJJ in Dayton, Ohio as a "Pendulum sweep" from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position.  This involves putting our opponent in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position with our shin up against our opponent’s armpit while trapping that hand against our hip and then grabbing their pant leg on the opposite side of the trapped arm and then turning our body against that leg to make them off balance.  From there, the opponent will try to post on their free hand in order to regain their balance, which is what we want them to do in our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position. Once they post out with that hand, we then force our hips the opposite way against the opponent’s trapped arm and sweep them onto their back, putting us in the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio full mount position, which is one of the best positions to be in when doing BJJ in Dayton, Ohio especially at a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition as it will earn the most points you can get in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio competition.

Another variation of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio pendulum sweep from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position is from where the opponent posts out with there hand.  From here, we can then feed our leg through the opponent’s arm and put them in a BJJ in Dayton, Ohio triangle choke position, where we can apply pressure to their neck and make them "tap out."

Once we were done with our drilling of the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio pendulum sweep from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio guard position we then moved on to our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sparring session of class we call "wiping the mat" which involves live sparring in order to get the maximum benefit from our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio training.

When our bodies were good and tired from the BJJ in Dayton, Ohio sparring we finished up our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy with our yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio session to help our bodies cool down and stay flexible from our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio training.

MMA conditioning, countering the roundhouse kick

Posted by torrey in technique , sparring , self defense dayton ohio , self defense , roundhouse kick , mma in dayton , mma dayton ohio , mma dayton , mma , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , grappling in dayton , grappling , free training , fighters in dayton , drilling , class , bjj in dayton , bjj dayton , bjj , 30 days free

In today’s MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning class at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we worked on dealing with counters to an opponent’s roundhouse kick.

After warming up the body at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy, we worked on a basic counter to the roundhouse kick, which is a kick commonly found in many Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio. To begin, as the opponent performs the roundhouse kick in Dayton, Ohio we move our body into the kick by stepping to the side along the path of the kick so that we don’t let the roundhouse kick hit us. Then we catch their roundhouse kick with our arms and step into the opponent and sweep the leg they are currently standing on. From there we can go to the ground and apply our BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques on our opponent. This is also an effective technique in MMA in Dayton, Ohio especially when the opponent has a background in striking Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio and little to no experience in grappling in Dayton, Ohio as it takes away their position for striking and puts them in unfamiliar territory which makes it even easier to perform BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques on them. It is also effective for self-defense in Dayton, Ohio as it puts the opponent on the ground forcefully, while leaving you in a superior standing position if you do not want to go to the ground.

Another variation of the roundhouse kick defense we trained at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy was once you block the opponent’s kick, you shoot in and wrap your leg around the opponent’s leg and force them to the ground where you can apply your BJJ in Dayton, Ohio techniques to them. This is a risky move as it gives up your standing position and forces you to go to the ground so it may be a situational technique in a self-defense in Dayton, Ohio situation as there may be more than one opponent around.

Once done with the kicking defense techniques at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy we then moved on to some station drills that worked on our MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning to help build up our cardio and technique. Once the stations drills at Tenbears Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio Academy were done we then moved on to our sparring in Dayton, Ohio session where we brought all of our MMA in Dayton, Ohio techniques together against resisting opponents to get the maximum benefit from our MMA in Dayton, Ohio training.

We then finished up our MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning class with our yoga for fighters in Dayton, Ohio program to help stretch our bodies out and prevent any further injuries from occurring.

MMA Training in Dayton, Ohio The Basics of Boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA

Posted by torrey in training , technique , sparring , self defense dayton ohio , self defense , muscle memory dayton ohio , Muay Thai Dayton Ohio , muay thai , mma in dayton , mma dayton ohio , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , drilling , boxing dayton ohio

Today’s MMA in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio focused mainly on basic MMA in Dayton, Ohio striking techniques. It’s important to properly understand what the basic MMA in Dayton, Ohio striking techniques are because they are the most used techniques in any MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight you will use since they are most effective techniques found in any MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight and especially in self-defense in Dayton, Ohio and the easiest to remember. When in an MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight or a self-defense in Dayton, Ohio situation, your stress level rises to a point where you are no longer thinking about what you are doing and acting more off of instinct rather than thought. That is why we repetitively drill the basic MMA in Dayton, Ohio techniques with new and advanced students in MMA in Dayton, Ohio so that they become second nature. I remember when starting out in my Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio training my instructor told me that in a real fight you will forget 97% of what you have learned and only use the 3% of what you know which are the most basic moves in Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio because that is what you will drill the most. We started out class by warming our bodies up in Dayton, Ohio by doing some basic shadow boxing and some bob and weave drills commonly found in Boxing in Dayton, Ohio. This helps us build up muscle memory in Dayton, Ohio so that we no longer have to think about what we do in a self defense in Dayton, Ohio situation and just act off of instinct. After we finished warming our bodies up with the Boxing in Dayton, Ohio drill we then moved on to our Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio kicking drill where we traded Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio kicks to the legs and torso to help build up our muscle memory and defense against any type of MMA in Dayton, Ohio kicks we might give or receive in an MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight or a self-defense in Dayton, Ohio situation we might find ourselves in. Once finished with the Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio kicking drill, we then transitioned on to an MMA in Dayton, Ohio body shot drill where one person practiced taking MMA in Dayton, Ohio strikes to their torso, be it Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio kicks or Boxing in Dayton, Ohio punches to the mid-section, also known as the core, to help toughen up the mid-section to receive any type of MMA in Dayton, Ohio strike. Once our MMA in Dayton, Ohio conditioning was done at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy at Dayton, Ohio, we then finished up our MMA in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio with our sparring in Dayton, Ohio part of class where we go against resisting opponents to help get the maximum benefit of our MMA in Dayton, Ohio training and self-defense in Dayton, Ohio training because in a real MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight or a self-defense in Dayton, Ohio situation our opponent isn’t going to just let us do our Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio techniques against them easily. That is why we constantly train with Martial Arts sparring in Dayton, Ohio to help our students become comfortable with performing their Martial Arts in Dayton, Ohio techniques.

MMA training Dayton, Ohio Muay Thai clinch

Posted by torrey in training , technique , sparring , self defense , muay thai , mma in dayton , mma dayton ohio , Martial arts in Dayton , martial arts , judo , jiu jitsu , drilling , clinch fighting , ab workout in dayton

On Thursday’s MMA in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio we focused on a lot of Muay Thai clinch fighting work commonly found in many MMA in Dayton, Ohio fights and also very effective in self-defense as most people are not used to dealing with the Muay Thai clinch fighting position. Our MMA in Dayton, Ohio warm up today at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio consisted of a shorter version of our stations drill, where we rotate from different stations every few minutes after practicing our Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio and MMA in Dayton, Ohio techniques against heavy bags, speed bags, ground and pound bags, as well as a station that had us receiving Muay Thai kicks and punches to the mid section to help toughen the body up in Dayton, Ohio. Once the MMA in Dayton, Ohio warm up session was complete at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio we then moved on to practice a basic Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio combo which involved kicking the opponent's outside leg repeatedly making them think that was our main target. Once the opponent tries to defend that kick, we instead aim for their other leg at the knee. After the leg kick we immediately went into a side kick with our same leg against their stomach, pushing them back. The next MMA in Dayton, Ohio drill at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio was a Muay Thai clinch fighting drill where we controlled our opponent’s head against our chest and threw Muay Thai in Dayton, Ohio knee strikes against their mid section, another commonly found technique often seen in MMA in Dayton, Ohio fights. We then transitioned to a Muay Thai clinch fighting drill against the wall, or cage if this was an MMA in Dayton, Ohio fight, where we learned to break the opponent’s Muay Thai clinch on us and then throw them into the wall. In MMA in Dayton, Ohio fights, it is common to see the MMA in Dayton, Ohio fighters pushing each other up against the cage, and in street self-defense situations someone may try to push you up against the wall, so it is important to learn how to deal with this type of situation if not just for MMA in Dayton, Ohio fights but for self-defense as well. After the Mauy Thai clinch fighting drills were done at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio we moved on to MMA in Dayton, Ohio sparring, putting all of our Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai techniques together against resisting opponents, getting the maximum benefit from our MMA in Dayton, Ohio training at Tenbears Martial Arts Academy in Dayton, Ohio. Once we were done with the MMA in Dayton, Ohio sparring we finished up class with an abdominal workout in Dayton, Ohio that involved doing leg raises while having a medicine ball dropped on our stomachs to help toughen up the body to receive any type of MMA in Dayton, Ohio strike to the mid section with ease.

BELT TESTING EXPERIENCE IN DAYTON OHIO

I am going to talk about belt testing and my experience with it! I personally have had 2 belt tests in the Yudansha fighting system, different schools and different martial arts have their own unique style of testing. I am going to go over Yudansha fighting system and my experiences I have had! Since the philosophy of Yudansha comes from three parts of a combative engagement first, the standing phase, next the clinch phase and last the ground phase! Yudansha philosophy is it is better to be good at all three than just be good in one. You have heard the term well rounded in the U.F.C. or MMA matches because they have to be good at all aspects of the game. Yudansha fighting systems first part of the belt test is going over techniques with a uke (or training partner) a good uke is ideal because you do not want the person resisting the techniques a good uke will have good break falls and not resist the throw to ensure good Kata or form. Judo is a big part of the test, here are a couple techniques, Seoi-nage or shoulder throw, O-Soto-Gari or major throw, these are from Gokyo or greenbelt here is one from yonkyo or blue belt Sukui-nage or scoop throw. In the yudansha system there is also wrestling techniques, your single leg and double leg take downs as well as firemans carry and so on. After going over techniques there is the Randori  part or live judo. then on to live sparing that has boxing, muay thai , and ground work( jiu-jitsu). This part will test you mentally as well as physically because the test is three 5 min. rounds in each, judo, stand up, and jiu-jitsu with fresh people alternating, I personally train my cardio and get a lot of mat time like I am training for a fight because 45 min. of live sparing is grueling! But also very rewarding when you complete!

Thursday classes at Tenbearss MMA in Dayton, Ohio are all about developing our stand up skills, including punching, kicking, clinch work, and takedowns in dayton ohio. Most if not all fights start standing up, so having excellent stand up skills is just as important as having good BJJ ground skills in dayton. We start out with warming our bodies up by practicing basic Boxing and Muay Thai punching and kicking drills against a partner by blocking and passing their strikes in Dayton, Ohio. These drills also help to develop reaction time to make it easier to tell when our opponent will strike and what strike they may use. After working those basic drills, we worked into "The Grind" where the students go round after round at different training stations practicing different skills such as Muay Thai pad striking, ground and pound strikes on a bag, punching and kicking against the heavy bag, using the speed bag and speed ball to help develop good hand eye coordination, as well as various other training drills in Dayton, Ohio. From there, after our bodies are good and tired from "The Grind" we then did live sparring against each other to practice our application of our Muay Thai skills in Dayton, Ohio. Once the sparring session is over, we worked into the abdominal section by doing leg raises at different levels as well as dropping a medicine ball on our stomachs to help condition them in Dayton, Ohio. As always we finished up by cooling down with our Yoga For Fighters session in order to keep our bodies nice and flexible in Dayton, Ohio.

In Sunday’s BJJ technical class at Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio we worked on a basic BJJ control technique called the "De La Hiva Hook" In dayton ohio. This BJJ technique involves hooking your foot inside the opponents leg on the inside of their hamstring, then keeping control of their opposite arm while your other foot is placed on the opposite hip of the leg being hooked. A BJJ sweep in dayton ohio can be applied from this control position by sliding your hooked foot up past the opponent’s groin to their opposite hip, then controlling the ankle of the opponent’s hooked leg and their arm on that side as well. From there, you pull on that arm to get the opponent off-balance and push with your hooked foot, driving them to the ground and following them into a side-control position in Dayton, Ohio. Lastly in class we had our live BJJ sparring session in Dayton, Ohio where students practiced applying the "De La Hiva Hook" control position and sweep against a resisting opponent in order to help perfect the technique in dayton ohio.

Saturday's BJJ and Judo in dayton, ohio at www.tenbearsmma.com

Tenbears MMA in Dayton, Ohio provides the best BJJ training in both stand-up fighting and ground fighting in Dayton, Ohio. In Saturday’s class, our students learned the importance of properly "shooting in" when applying a single-leg or a double-leg takedown on their opponent. It is important when performing the takedown that the hands are properly grabbing the opponent behind the knees where the legs bend and getting your weight underneath the opponent in order to have the proper leverage. The body must also be as close to the opponent’s body to prevent the opponent from "sprawling" in order to defend against the takedown. Without being able to properly apply a correct takedown, our students would not be able to apply the Jiu Jitsu ground techniques we learn in Dayton, Ohio. Class was then finished up with our "wiping the mat" session, where we apply our Jiu Jitsu techniques against a resisting opponent in order to make sure we understand how to perform the techniques correctly in a live situation. Without this kind of training in Dayton, ohio we wouldn’t be prepared for when it really counts in a competition or a self-defense incident.

I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day when I started training.  I started training mainly cause I have always been interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I felt that the self discipline and fitness oriented training would be the positive influence I needed in my life. I have cut down 15lbs since I started training and quit smoking after the first class. The self confidence I got from the training is something that is unreal. The Sensei is awesome and the way he teaches the classes is informative, fun, and the techniques are extremely useful in competitions. The feeling I get from the school is that we are a big family we watch the fights together train and compete together. I recommend this school and program to anyone that needs a positive direction or fitness training in there life.

~JOSH PETERS

Tenbears has great martial arts classes.  I am a huge fan of jiujitsu and would recommend it to anyone.  It's a great family environment and Sinsei Jim is very patient and ensures that everyone practices key moves correctly.  I know I live a healthier lifestyle now and have more confidence and overall fitness.  I'm learning self defense and gaining more appreciation for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

 ~Colin S.

The number one reason I signed up at Tenbears MMA was because I had a background of boxing and wanted to become more of a well rounded fighter. I wanted to improve my cardio and become more confident that if I end up on the ground in a fight that I will be able to handle the situation. The 3 most important benefits that I have received since I have started training here ; my self confidence has gone up by leaps and bounds, I have became a very well rounded fighter, and I have gained some lifelong friends. I am very happy with the instructors here. Their patience and knowledge of the arts of jiu jitsu, kickboxing, and judo are one of the main reasons that I committed to the school. My overall feeling is that it has become an extension of my family. The respect we give each other here is something you don’t find at every school. I don’t feel like just another statistic here. I would recommend this martial arts school in Dayton to anyone that wants to learn self defense, lose weight, and or compete in jiujitsu. You won’t find a more well rounded school in the area.

~Matt M

The number one reason I wanted to join a martial arts school is to get fit.  I also want to gain more self discipline because I want to become a professional MMA fighter.  So far I have lost 20 pounds, I am much more flexible and I have tons of energy.  Tenbears is the greatest martial arts class in Dayton and it feels like part of my family here. I would definitely recommend this especially as an alternative to karate classes or taekwondo.

~ Angel Burke

Martial Arts DaytonI joined Tenbears MMA mainly to improve on my self defense. The benefits that I have received from this school are endless. Some of the main ones are physical fitness, overall martial arts training and knowledge, and meeting and getting to know others that train many different Martial Arts styles. I have gotten a lot of experience doing ground work (jiu jitsu), also my striking and fitness level have improved by leaps and bounds. I feel the instructor is as much a part of the class as the students. That is something that I don’t see in other school and I think it helps with the overall comradery in the school. My feelings about the school as a whole are it’s a very friendly school and not competitive at all, even though some of the students do compete. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into better shape and or learn some real life self defense and/ or MMA.

~Torrey

I love to compete and have always been a big fan of full contact competition. I had wrestled for many years and decided that this would be a more advanced and technique style of competition. Two of the biggest benefits I got from this school and style of training are honor and respect. I learned that honoring and respecting the school, the sensei, and most importantly myself I was able to advance in the sport.  The leadership skills and humility I learned from this school are something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The feeling I get when I hit the mats and start training is indescribable. The way the classes are taught to the people that train in the school it’s like no other school I have ever been to.  I recommend this school to anyone that is at all interested in training or trying any style of Martial Arts.

~ Brandon

~BRYAN KNAFF

I joined Tenbears Martial Arts Academy mainly to get back into shape. As a result my self confidence went way up and my stress level has gone done by leaps and bounds. In the 6 months I have been training here at Tenbears MMA I have lost 30 POUNDS. I have met a great group of guys that I train with, and have also learned a very practical art. The Sensie’s instructions are simple and he really takes the time to make sure that you understand the techniques. The feeling I get at this school isn’t that of a school at all. It reminds me of a family. I would recommend this school to everyone. I have tried so many other schools in the area and none of them compare to the training I get here at Tenbears MMA. Plus with the 30 DAYS FREE you can’t go wrong.

 ~Mike f

I joined the Tenbears Academy in Dayton mainly to lose weight and improve my over all health. Self defense is also important to me and my family. ~JASON ROGERS

The main reason I wanted to train is because I love watching MMA fights on TV. I really just wondered if I could do that type of competition also. I joined Tenbears MMA to try and improve my fighting skills. To say the least I am getting in better shape then I thought I would, I am getting stronger, and my fighting skills have improved drastically. The way the instructor teaches the class is unlike I thought it would be. He really gets in the class just like the students and trains with us. My overall impression of the school is friendly. The way the other student's seem to wanna get to know you kinda caught me off guard, its like a big family. I recommend this program to anyone that wants to improve their self defense skills and or compete.
